we made it right the first time: poem one

who knew donating 20 minutes to straight fucking in back seats on an ex best friend’s former street would bring earth quakes and tsunamis
so i’m sending flowers and cards to the japanese praying sushi prices don’t rise
we’re no more careful now than we were four years ago on international calls for hours and carpeted floors in maryland
love was nothing we needed to make once we established we had it on the phone that night
so we fucked
and fucked
and fucked
and i no longer dance with random women at parties and clubs
because at this age the woman i dance with in the dark could easily turn into my daughter’s mother months later
and i’m done with the lullabies of “hate her”
so i’ll dance with you
and hope we can still find holes to plant seeds in when we’re five years older
those who do it wrong must frequently make love
we did that the first time
we made that the first time
we made it right the first time so it’d never break
and we could fuck any time we want and not feel guilty
